I am thrilled to be your child's first grade teacher this year, and I am eager to meet all of you. In the meantime, here’s a little background on me.

 

I am a native Californian and have lived in San Diego since I was two years old. Upon graduating from high school, I moved north to attend college at the University of California at Berkeley. After college I moved to Los Angeles where I received my teaching credential from Cal State Northridge.  I also hold an Education Specialist Credential and Masters Degree from Cal State San Marcos.

 

This will be my sixteenth year in education and I am delighted to be a part of such a terrific school community. Prior to coming to Ocean Air, I taught in LA Unified and at The Rhoades School in Encinitas.  After many trips to Ghana, West Africa during my summer vacations, I made the tough decision to step away from the classroom for two years as I established a non-profit working to improve education in Africa. I missed being with students in the classroom, though, and returned to Encinitas Country Day School before I joined Del Mar Union School District.  

 

When I’m not teaching, I love traveling!  In years past, I spent many summers in Ghana, West Africa volunteers in schools.  In addition to Africa, I’ve lived in England, as well as traveled throughout Europe and the Caribbean.  I have also traveled throughout Asia, Central America, and Mexico.  I particularly love trips down to Baja California Sur.  The best part of traveling (aside from the food :) is I get to share all I’ve collected and learned with my students each year.  I also enjoy spending my free time outside in San Diego. One of my favorite pastimes is playing at the beach and the park with my Boxer, Lucy.

 

Communication between parents and teachers is a key ingredient to a successful year, and I am looking forward to meeting all of you.
